Donald Carter Jr. is a former police detective that you may have seen on national news this year.

In early 2017 Donald Carter Jr. made national headlines for being kind. While waiting in a fast food drive through he met a young woman with an uncertain future. What ensued changed Donald’s perspective on community, kindness, racial inequity and set his sights on something bigger: to become Mayor.

A former police detective, Carter is a man who chooses his words thoughtfully. You get the sense he’s not choosing them on the spot, either. It seems most everything he speaks about in this conversation he’s spent a considerable amount of time analyzing internally.

Donald Carter Jr. has been featured on the Today Show, Good Morning America, the Steve Harvey Show, and numerous other broadcasts and publications. In 2015 Carter and his family were featured in the documentary Our Divided City, which examined violent crime in east Kansas City (https://www.kcpt.org/local-shows/our-divided-city/).
