Ramon Valdez fights for the rights of asylum seekers to the United States with the Innovation Law Lab (innovationlawlab.org). In this conversation he explains what asylum seekers from the Northern Triangle of Central America are up against when arriving in the U.S. Quite honestly, it’s horrifying.
As the Program Manager for ILL’s western U.S. Centers of Excellence, Valdez oversees programs built to equip volunteers with the tools needed to help asylum seekers actually gain asylum. Most people do not realize the asylum process is not welcoming, and the message from the U.S. to seekers is generally, “Go back to where you came from.”
